Mayor Sly James to celebrate early success of 2011 Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund

November 22, 2011 - KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
Mayors Christmas Tree Fund has taken in more than double last year's total

Kansas City Mayor Sly James will hold a press availability tomorrow, November 23, in front of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree at Crown Center. The tree serves each year as a both a civic symbol of the holidays and a philanthropic rallying point for Kansas City. Each year, thousands of families across the City receive money through the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund to make their holidays a bit brighter.

Mayor James will announce this year’s contribution totals to date, which have surpassed last year’s, replenished the Mayor’s Christmas Tree reserve funds, and brought the 501c3 into the “black” financially.

In addition to this year’s donations to individual families, the renewed financial stability of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree will allow the organization to fund holiday parties for thousands of children at all ten of Kansas City’s Community Centers.

The Mayor will also spend one-on-one time with media outlets after the announcement of contribution totals.
